On a night of double-doubles from Varejão and 24 points from Marquinhos, Flamengo beats São José in the NBB
Pivot celebrates one year with the club with a great performance at Arena Carioca 1

Flamengo won again in the NBB. With a solid defensive performance and excellent performance from the three-point line, the Pride of the Nation defeated São José on Friday night at Arena Carioca 1, 96-83, in another great night for Marquinhos, with 24 points, and Olivinha, with 22. Center Anderson Varejão celebrated a year of Flamengo basketball with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. The front three broke the deadlock and led the team to victory.
The match didn't pose many threats to Flamengo. Gustavo de Conti's team held the lead for virtually the entire 40 minutes, with its dominance barely threatened by the team from the interior of São Paulo. In the first quarter, Marquinhos, Varejão, and Balbi set the pace, combining for 28 points and virtually sealing the victory.
The third quarter was the most evenly matched, with São José finishing ahead by 10 points, narrowing the deficit to six by the end of the quarter. It was the period in which the red-and-black attack stalled on the court, scoring just 15 points. The difference from the previous periods kept São José ahead.
In the final 10 minutes, the team found its feet. Olivinha shone with nine points and helped Flamengo open up a gap again. The scoring returned to the pattern of the previous quarters, São José wasted many attacks, and the red-and-black basketball team won its 13th game of the competition.
Now, Mengão travels for two away games, against Joinville and Mogi, returning to play in front of their fans in the two classics that open February, against Paulistano and Franca.
