In the debut of American Kyle Lamonte and center Átila in the red-and-black jersey, Flamengo secured another victory in the State Basketball Championship. Playing at their opponent's home ground, the Rubro-negro defeated Macaé 99-80 on Wednesday night (September 29.09) at the Municipal Gymnasium. It was Flamengo's third victory in the competition. The team had already crushed Iguaçu (142-52) and Riachuelo (114-56) in the first two games.

Once again, shooting guard Marcelinho led the way with 27 points. Center Babby scored 21. The night's debutant, Lamonte, who was recovering from a sprained right ankle, scored 15 points. The game was Flamengo's closest so far in the competition. The team opened up a 30-point lead but ultimately won by a margin of 19 points.

Flamengo returns to the court for the State Championship next Wednesday (October 06.10th) against Cabo Frio. Before that, however, the team travels to Vila Velha (ES), where they will play two friendlies against CETAF. The teams face each other on Friday (October 01.10st) at 20 pm and on Saturday (October 02.10nd) at 19 pm at the Tartarugão gymnasium. The games will serve as preparation for the South American League and the NBB.

"It will be important to see and better evaluate our reinforcements for this season. We have to start well, because the fans will show up," said coach Paulo Chupeta.
