Highlights
It was a great performance by Mais Querido, with Yago and Rafael Mineiro being the standouts. The Little Monster led the way with 20 points—with five three-pointers and a shooting percentage above 90 percent—and also tallied eight assists and five rebounds. The center scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Seven athletes had double digits in scoring, in addition to Yago and Mineiro: Dar Tucker (18), Brandon Robinson (14), Túlio da Silva (12), JP Batista (11) and Olivinha (11), who was also the team's top rebounder (8).
The game
The match started back and forth, with the opponent leading the scoreboard with better shooting. With a three-pointer from Faverani, the Red-Blacks regained the lead with seconds remaining (19-18), but almost as soon as the clock was up, Mogi closed the set at 19-20.
The second quarter started off fiercely contested, but the hometown crowd in the gymnasium continued to chant and support the Flamengo stars, who responded on the court with dedication, grit, technique, and a flurry of three-pointers. Rafael Mineiro, Brandon Robinson, and Rafael Rachel all hit from distance, giving Flamengo a ten-point lead before halftime: 46-36.
And the rain turned into a storm in the third quarter: Yago (four times), Olivinha, JP Batista, Rachel, and Túlio da Silva returned from the locker room with their hands ready for three-point shots. The team went into the final period with a crushing 29-point lead (84-55), with 38 points scored in the third quarter alone.
Túlio da Silva and Dar Tucker were the standout performers in the final ten minutes of the match. The crowd called for a century-high, and it delivered with two points and a foul on the American with just over three minutes remaining. At the final click of the clock, the scoreboard showed an irrefutable 116-73, following a dunk featuring a "zero" by Túlio da Silva, sending the nation into a frenzy.
