On a court renovated by NBA Cares, Flamengo and Magic play with children
Young students from Santos Anjos school, in Cruzada São Sebastião, a community in Rio, have an unforgettable afternoon with basketball stars.

Santos Anjos School, in Cruzada São Sebastião, a community in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. In the same place where Adílio, a world champion soccer star for Flamengo, studied, dozens of children received another incentive to write their name in the history of the sport, just like the number 8. On the morning of this Thursday (15.10), the municipal school's court was reopened, completely renovated by a partnership between the NBA, the NBA Cares project, Amway, Orlando Magic and Flamengo.

The party featured an impressive guest list, including NBA legends, organization officials, representatives from the American consulate, community and government officials, and stars from the Orlando Magic and Pride of the Nation. To the delight of the kids, the players went beyond mere lip service and kicked the ball around with the young basketball players. The activity was divided into six stations, inviting the children to learn dribbling, shooting, and physical preparation and technique exercises with idols previously only seen on television.

"Follow your dreams. If you want to be a doctor, a lawyer, or the best basketball player in the world, work hard, in the classroom or on the court, because anything is possible," encouraged Magic star Victor Oladipo.
Before the clinic, the kids watched the presentation press conference from the best seat on the court and were thrilled when Marcelinho Machado's presence was announced.
"It's a priceless recognition. I'm happy to be able to come here and reciprocate this affection. I've been in their shoes as a child with my idols, and I know how important this connection is. I remember when I was a kid, Flamengo had a very strong team; even Marcelo Vido (current Executive Director of Olympic Sports) was part of that team, and I'd stay to watch the training sessions. Anything they told me, whether it was 'eat well,' 'study hard,' I listened attentively. Even if parents talk about it all the time at home, when it's your idol speaking, you receive that advice differently. That's why I know how important we are here for the development of these children," said the number 4, who sees great value in social initiatives of this kind.
"I'm happy to participate in an event like this. We have to continue these actions, as the last one we did at INCA. It's great for everyone who receives it, but for us it's also a source of pride, it's very rewarding."
