Rubro-Negro, the biggest winner of the competition, is looking for its sixth title in the competition, and makes its debut facing Paulistano, at 19:30 pm, at the Antônio Prado Jr gymnasium, in São Paulo.
Five-time champion Flamengo is looking to regain its dominance in Brazilian basketball. The team lifted the trophy in 2008-09, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16. Last season, the team fell in the quarterfinals to Pinheiros and failed to win its unprecedented sixth Brazilian title.
Preparations for this season were intense. Friendlies in Peru and the South American League were part of the planning, as was the arrival of David Cubillan, Arthur Pecos, Henrique Pilar, and Malcolm Rhett, to strengthen the team across the board.

Paulistano, the current NBB runner-up, is coming off a first-ever São Paulo Basketball Championship title. The team, led by coach Gustavo de Conti, debuted in the NBB against Bauru, and suffered a 72-71 loss. In the second game, against Franca, the São Paulo team suffered a 97-73 defeat and faces Mengão seeking to recover in the competition.
