The game
The match began with a three-pointer from Olivinha, who soon after lifted the crowd in the stands with a beautiful dunk. Flamengo still relied on Brandon Robinson's skill and calibrated touch to extend their lead, but their opponents fought back and took the lead. With Mineiro excelling defensively, Flamengo remained committed in their quest to regain the lead, and with a three-pointer from Túlio da Silva, they once again drew level, which stood at 16-19 at the end of the period.
The nation didn't stop cheering, and it was with the sheer force of the fans in the gym that Flamengo fought back, but the red-and-black team's shots just weren't falling. Yago, Robinson, and Mineiro, with three-pointers at the end of the clock, kept Mengão alive in the match, which went into halftime with the score at 32-38.
The third quarter started off fiercely, with four points apiece. The fans roared in the stands, and the team responded on the court. Yago scored and was fouled on a three-point play, making it 41-46. But two three-pointers from Franca put Flamengo within ten points of the Red-Blacks. Flamengo alternated good moments with numerous long-range baskets from their opponents and went into the fourth quarter trailing 48-59.
In the final period, Mineiro, Tucker (twice), and Robinson all scored from long range, but it was still an afternoon of excellent shooting from Flamengo, as usual. There was no shortage of spirit, and the players fought hard until the end, but the victory went to Franca.
