From January 06th to the 14th, Flamengo will hold a tryout for the club's youth basketball team at its Gávea headquarters, in the Hélio Maurício gymnasium. The first two tryouts were a success, with 400 athletes participating and 41 new talents approved for Flamengo, across all categories. Registration will be completed on-site, and interested parties must bring a doctor's note and ID. An added motivation for the youngsters: two athletes from the adult team will participate each day to help evaluate the participants, in addition to the youth coaches, the head coach of the main team, José Neto, and his assistant, Rodrigo Carlos. 

"I participated in the other tryouts at Gávea, evaluating the kids who want to join Flamengo, and I know how important it is for these teenagers who want to play basketball for Flamengo to be part of this selection. Some of these people will actually stay on the team. What I can wish is that they have a lot of faith and believe in their dreams. And good luck!" said idol Marcelinho.

Participants will be evaluated daily by a panel of three coaches per training session, which will include warm-ups, stretching, fundamentals training, and ten-point matches. Teams will be selected based on their level of proficiency.

The list of players who will participate in the tryout evaluation has already been released. On the 06th, Gegê and Cristiano Felício; on the 07th, Chupeta and Diego; on the 08th, Shilton and Olivinha; on the 09th, Meyinsse and Marquinhos; on the 10th, Douglas and a player to be determined; and on the 13th, Marcelinho and Laprovittola. On the 14th, the end of the tryout, all players will be present for the athlete approval.

The boys who are approved will be called to train with the teams in their categories starting on February 12, 2014. In addition, they will be invited by the entire adult team to watch the NBB 6 game against Palmeiras on January 30, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium, at 20 pm, receiving a shirt that says "I passed the Mengão sieve."
