The match against Uberlândia on Friday (March 25.03th), in the 12th round of the NBB (New Basketball Brazil), is eagerly awaited by the Rubro-Negro squad. And not only because it's a key match for Flamengo in the competition, but also because the match will mark the reopening of the court at the Hélio Maurício gymnasium in Gávea. Since the 2009 State Championship final, when Flamengo defeated Cabo Frio, a game hasn't been played on the club's court. This will be the first time an NBB match will be played there.
The match starts at 20 p.m. and tickets cost R$10. Fans wearing Flamengo shirts, club members, and students with membership cards pay half price (R$5). The match against Uberlândia was originally scheduled to take place at Tijuca Tênis Clube, but due to the club's cancellation, the match was moved to Gávea.
The Hélio Maurício gymnasium has been undergoing renovations since the end of last year. The court received a modern floating floor, as well as new backboards and a scoreboard.
Flamengo's longest-serving player, point guard Fred, who has been with the club since 2006, is happy to be back playing at Gávea.
"Gávea is our home. It's very different to play here, it has a different energy. I've been at Flamengo for a long time, I know practically everyone here, and receiving the support from the employees and the members is priceless. Plus, I'm sure our fans will turn out in force," said the point guard.
Center Bábby, in turn, will play his first match at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium.
"I think it's very important for the club to maintain this connection between sports and its members. It's going to be exciting to play here. Today, we can be proud to have one of the best courts in Rio de Janeiro and even in Brazil," said the center.
