Under-12 basketball team wins the Basqueteduca Festival

Last Sunday (15.11), the Mais Querido under-12 basketball team was champion of the Basqueteduca Festival 2015. The event ended its 6th edition, where, in addition to Flamengo, the Clube Militar, Grajaú Tênis Clube, Kesportes (AABB), Basquete SA, Rio Sport Center, Escola Francesa and Escola Americana participated, with the aim of the young people involved working on competitiveness, exchanging information, meeting new colleagues and also dealing with refereeing and all the pressure that a competition demands.
This year's edition was held at the Military Club, the American School of Barra da Tijuca, and the American School of Gávea. The event featured five categories: the under-10 team, which did not compete for the title; the under-12 team, where Rubro-Negro was champion; the under-14 team, which was runner-up; the under-17 team, which finished sixth; and the adult team, which did not participate.
The 2015 Basqueteduca Festival began in September, on the weekend of the 26th and 27th (Saturday and Sunday). The matches were divided by age group: the under-14 and under-17 teams played on Saturdays, and the under-10 and under-12 teams on Sundays. The following games took place on October 17th and 18th and November 14th and 15th, when the final stage took place. On the last Sunday of the competition, the under-12 final was held at Escola Americana da Gávea, and the "Mais Querido" defeated the home team to win the title.
Basketball teacher at the Sempre Flamengo Sports School, Márcio Miranda spoke about his happiness at seeing his students participate in the Festival.
"The goal is for the athletes to have fun. Winning is an inherent desire of those who step onto the court, but the most important victory, in the eyes of the Flamengo Basketball School, is the one over ourselves. An athlete overcoming their difficulties has the same value as a team that fought to be champion. Furthermore, the teachers also learn a lot from an event like this. It's enriching for everyone, and it was common to see smiles on the faces of the parents of each student and athlete," he stated.
The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo basketball teams receive funding from their sponsors – CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional), Banco Bonsucesso, and Brasil Brokers – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), as well as support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) through the decentralization of resources from the Pelé Law.
