Flamengo defeated Pinheiros 70-49 on Thursday morning (July 04.07th) and achieved its ninth consecutive victory in the Brazilian Development League (LDB). At the Olympic Arena in São Sebastião do Paraíso (MG), the fans saw the Rubro-Negro play a devastating third quarter. They scored 22 points against no baskets converted by the São Paulo team. With 26 points, Flamengo's Chupeta was the game's top scorer.
"The first half was tough, but in the second half, we came out focused and got the win. It's important to get a lot of points now in the qualifying phase so that, in a possible final, we can play in Rio de Janeiro," explained coach Paulo Chupeta.
Thanks to this victory, Flamengo maintains its 100% record in the competition and is the leader of the qualifying stage. The team's next challenge, in the LDB, will be on July 31st, when the red-and-blacks will face Goiânia, at a location yet to be determined.
