An epic victory! The Pride of the Nation debuted in style in the NBB Caixa. In the opening game of the ninth edition of the competition, Fla Basquete visited the current runner-up Bauru and, after 40 minutes of play and two overtimes, secured a stunning 100-97 victory.

The red-and-black team's standout performer was JP Batista, who recorded a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Marcelinho also made his mark with 22 points. Olivinha, another double-double achiever, scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

The match was extremely balanced, however Bauru's start was more intense, which made the São Paulo team open up a good lead at the end of the first quarter, 17 to 12.

In the second quarter, the opponent started better again, and the lead reached eight points, the largest of the match. However, Flamengo grew into the game, reducing the lead, and by the end of the second quarter, the advantage was just two points: 33 to 31.

The third and fourth quarters set the tone of the match: drama and alternating scores. In total, including overtime, the game was tied 16 times, with 16 lead changes. Thus, at the end of the 40 minutes, the score was 76-76.

The first overtime saw plenty of fighting, grit, and nerves. Alternating the lead, the teams didn't open up a gap and tied once again, 88-88.

In the second half, Flamengo had more composure, especially in the final seconds. With JP Batista inspired and Marcelinho always accurate with free throws, the Pride of the Nation opened up a three-point lead, enough to close the game at 100-97.

"I think that before we value anything, we have to value the spirit of this team. We have to praise the group's willingness and dedication. Today they played with passion, determination, and instilled confidence in the young players, who came in 100% focused on what they could do," analyzed José Neto.

Fla Basquete's next challenge will be on Tuesday (08), against Franca, at 19:30.
