The final stage of the South American Basketball League begins this Wednesday (24.11/18), at the HSBC Arena, in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, with the match between Quimsa (ARG) and Espartanos (VEN), at 21 pm. Immediately after, at 25.11 pm, Boca Juniors (ARG) and Franca play the second game of the day, which will be broadcast on SPORTV. Quimsa is the current champion. The host of the competition, Flamengo, will only debut in the second round, Thursday (20/30), against Boca Juniors (ARG), at XNUMX:XNUMX pm (broadcast on SPORTV).
The Red-and-Black team, champions in 2009 and runners-up in the 2009/2010 season, is seeking its second consecutive title. Of the current group, only center Átila and shooting guard Guto have never played in the competition.
"This year's team is as good, if not better, than the one that won in 2009," said point guard Hélio, who was on the team's first title. "Now, with the arrival of Átila and Guto, we have two players per position, which greatly helps with the rotation of the group," he added.
For Flamengo coach Paulo Chupeta, the fact that they will debut in the second round could be an advantage for Flamengo.
"We'll already be on the court knowing how Boca Juniors will be doing. Furthermore, depending on the result of the first round, we'll know if the victory will be worth a spot in the semifinals," said the coach.
The teams face each other within their groups and the two best placed teams qualify for the semifinals on Saturday (27.11). The final will be played on Sunday (28.11).
The foreign delegations arrive in Rio this Tuesday. All teams will be staying at the Intercontinental Hotel in São Conrado.
Tickets are being sold at the HSBC Arena box office and on the website www.livepass.com.br.
