Champions League finals could take place in the second half of the year due to COVID-19
Undefeated in the championship and with a spot in the next edition, FlaBasquete is the only team guaranteed
By Helena Petry - inDue to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Champions League finals will not be held in the first half of 2020. In March, the International Basketball Federation had announced in a statement the suspension of all competitions for an indefinite period. However, last Friday (08), FIBA Americas communicated to the clubs the decision that the competition finals will not take place before the end of August, and could be held in September, depending on a new evaluation.
Undefeated in the championship, with eight wins in eight games, FlaBasquete has already qualified for the final and awaits the winner of the third semifinal match between Quimsa and San Lorenzo. The Rubro-Negro's last Champions League match was against Instituto Córdoba on March 12th at Maracanãzinho. In a thrilling duel, the Pride of the Nation recovered from a 20-point lead to defeat their opponent 66-64, securing a spot in the final.
Flamengo ends the season with excellent performance. In addition to winning the State Championship and finishing second in the Super 8 Cup, the "Mais Querido" had brilliant performances in the Champions League, reaching the final without a defeat, and in the NBB, with 21 wins in 24 matches. Last Monday (04), the National Basketball League announced the end of the competition, which ended without a champion. In first place in the table, the "Rubro-Negro" secured access to the next edition of the Champions League.
