Fla anxious for the return of the absentees

Jerome Meyinsse returns to the team in the next game, against Goiânia; Marcelinho and Marquinhos are still waiting

Last Saturday (09.11), the Fla basketball team took to the court for the first game of the 2013/2014 season of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Even without point guard Marcelinho, who will be out for another four games, suspended by the STJD, wing Marquinhos, who has been recovering from bone edema in the tibia, and center Jerome Meyinsse, who did not play due to the death of his father days before the game, the team beat their great rival Brasília, 84 to 82, at the HSBC Arena.

Marcelinho was at the game, this time, to cheer on his teammates.

"It's definitely better to be on the court (than cheering), it's very difficult to be on the sidelines. But since I was on the sidelines all last season, I'll say it again: if I'm on the sidelines and the team wins, I'm just as happy, I try to contribute in some way. Even in the locker room, with words of comfort and encouragement. I think that way I contribute a little and feel like I'm part of the victory too," said the red-and-black point guard.

Center Olivinha believes that the victory in the first game of the NBB is proof that the squad is strong for the 2013/2014 season.

"When they return (Marcelinho, Marquinhos and Jerome Meyinsse), they will be three players, at national team level, who will help us a lot this season. We are eager for them to return as soon as possible so they can help us on the court. Today's victory (Saturday, November 09.11) proved the strength of our squad. Even with these three very important absences, we managed to beat Brasília, our biggest rival, with practically a full squad," said Olivinha.

Marcelinho returns to the team on November 30th at 18 pm in a match against Paulistano at Tijuca Tênis Clube. Marquinhos, who is injured, is expected to return at the end of December. American Jerome Meyinsse returns to the team next Thursday (14.11/XNUMX) in a match against Goiânia, also at Tijuca Tênis Clube.
