Fla crushes Franca in its debut in the LDO hexagonal
Led by Fred Duarte, the young basketball team beats the São Paulo team 80-43

After finishing the first phase as undefeated leader of group A, Flamengo debuted in the semifinal hexagonal of the Olympic Development League (LDO) – the Brazilian under-21 basketball championship – with a crushing victory over Franca, 80 x 43. The tournament is being played in São Sebastião do Paraíso (MG) and will qualify four teams for the final phase, between December 26 and 29, in Rio de Janeiro. This Tuesday (20.12), the Rubro-negro faces Paulistano, at 18 pm.
The current top scorer and rebounder in the competition, Flamengo's power forward/center Fred Duarte was the standout player of the game, posting a double-double: 29 points and 12 rebounds. Flamengo's winger, Alexandre Paranhos, also stood out with 15 points.
"We had an excellent first half, but then we let the pace drop a bit. The score may have been good, but we still have a lot to improve on," said Fred.
With a very strong defense and a fast attack, the team led by Paulo Chupeta from Rio de Janeiro took a 16-0 lead early in the first quarter. Led by forward/center Fred Duarte, who had already recorded a double-double (16 points and 10 rebounds), Flamengo went into halftime leading 42-19.
In the third quarter, the game became more even. But Fred continued to make a difference for Flamengo and helped prevent a comeback. In the final quarter, the Rio de Janeiro team simply had to play cautiously to hold on to the lead.
