Flamengo crushed Boston College of Chile 97-44 on Friday night (November 04.11th) in the second match of the first phase of the South American Basketball League in Córdoba, Argentina. With the result, the red-and-black team, which had beaten UTE of Ecuador in its debut, practically secured its place in the final hexagonal of the competition (the top two in each group advance). This Saturday (November 05.11th), Flamengo faces hosts Atenas de Córdoba at 20 pm (Brasília time), concluding its participation in the group. American David Jackson was the top scorer of the game with 26 points. Marcelinho scored 20.
Playing a formidable defense, Flamengo dominated the entire first half. After closing the first quarter 27-10, Flamengo continued to score strongly, so much so that with three minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Chilean team had only scored four points. Furthermore, an inspired American David Jackson contributed 3 points, and Caio had eight rebounds. The result: Flamengo went into halftime leading 19-48.
In the third quarter, Flamengo continued to force mistakes from their opponent and opened up a 34-point lead (60 x 26), further increasing their lead at the end: 70 x 32. Even though they were so far ahead on the scoreboard, the red-black team did not lose focus in the final quarter and closed the massacre at 97 x 44.
"We were able to work well defensively and play the game at pace. The Chilean team felt this and struggled to play their game, allowing us to quickly open up a good lead," analyzed captain Marcelinho.
Coach Gonzalo Garcia was also pleased with the red-black defense.
"Our defense was crucial today. Furthermore, the team played seriously and managed to win by a good margin of points, which is very important for qualification," he explained. "Now we have to stay focused and be ready for tomorrow's game," he added.
