Flamengo defeats Minas Gerais and remains in the lead of the NBB

Flamengo defeated Minas Gerais on Friday night (March 18th) by 84-71, and reached 18.03 wins in 24 games in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). With the support of the fans, who attended the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium in good numbers, the team controlled the match from start to finish. With the result, Flamengo remains in the lead of the competition alongside Pinheiros, who defeated Paulistano this Friday and has the same number of wins as the Rubro-negro. In the head-to-head (first tiebreaker), the São Paulo team has the upper hand, having won both matches.
Minas took the lead, opening up a 6-2 lead, but Flamengo quickly rallied and remained in the lead throughout the match. In the first quarter, the red-and-black team opened up a 10-point lead, a lead that lasted until the end of the half: 27-17. In the second, Minas capitalized on a moment of inattention to close the gap to 33-32, but Flamengo improved its defense and went into halftime leading 47-37.
In the third quarter, the team once again allowed Minas to dream of a comeback, but the drop in production was short-lived. Teichmann stepped up in rebounds—he had 12 in the entire game—Teague took responsibility with individual plays, and the visitors' defense couldn't handle the strength of the Flamengo attack. The American scored 16 points in the game, trailing only Marcelinho, the leading scorer with 28 points. The point guard completed 100 NBB games for Flamengo and narrowly avoided a dribble between the legs of an opponent.

Now it's important to win the next two games at home, to stay in the fight for the top four places," said Marcelinho, referring to the matches against Urbelândia, on Friday, and Brasília, on Sunday (27th), both in Tijuca.
