Fla starts 2012 with a crushing victory and isolated leadership of the NBB
The red-black team beats Franca 93 x 81 and faces Uberlândia on Saturday (07.01)

Flamengo ignored Franca and won the first game of 2012 by 93 x 81, on Thursday night (05.01), at Tijuca Tênis Clube. With the result, the Rubro-negro took the sole leadership of the NBB, since Pinheiros was defeated by Liga Sorocabana. Now, Flamengo has nine wins in 10 games. The next challenge will be this Saturday (07.01), against Uberlândia, at 17 pm, at Tijuca.
American David Jackson led the way with 23 points. Argentina's Kammerichs also stood out with a double-double: 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Flamengo was devastating in the first quarter. After leading 15-2, they went on to take a 20-4 lead. With a strong defense and a powerful attack, the red-and-black team closed the quarter at 27-13. Franca threatened a comeback in the second quarter, and the lead dropped to six points: 36-30. But Flamengo soon regained control and went into halftime leading 47-38.
In the second half, Flamengo's dominance continued. The third quarter ended 74-51 for Flamengo, and in the final quarter, they simply controlled the game and closed it out at 93-81.
"I think defense was the key to our victory. We knew we had to come out on the court with a very intense game, after all, we were playing at home. And that's what happened," analyzed Kammerichs.
For coach Gonzalo Garcia, the victory and the isolated leadership were consequences of the hard work that Flamengo has been doing in the competition.
"For now, this lead is relative, as we have many good teams and the competition is well balanced. So, I think the tournament will only be decided in the last five rounds and we have to maintain our focus until the end," he said.
