Fla begins quest for first basketball title of the season
The team faces Tijuca, Monday (05.11), at 20 pm, for the State final

Seeking its eighth consecutive title, Flamengo plays the first game of the best-of-three State Basketball Championship finals this Monday (November 05.11th). The opponent is Tijuca, and the match is scheduled for 20 p.m. at the Tijuca Tennis Club gymnasium, with free admission. The second challenge will be next Wednesday (November 07.11th) at 20 p.m. at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium in Gávea. If necessary, the third game will take place on November 09.11th, also in Gávea.
Champion from 2005 to 2011, Flamengo reached the final undefeated in this edition of the State Championship. The team is using the competition as preparation for the South American League, the League of the Americas, and the NBB, which begins at the end of the month.
"This will be the team's first playoff of the season. Every final has its own unique characteristics; it's very different from a first-round or second-round match, even if the opponent is the same. It will be important for the team to face this challenge, and we're prepared for the games," said coach José Neto.
At the end of October, in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Flamengo secured a spot in the second phase of the South American League and, consequently, qualification for next year's League of the Americas. In Group C, the team defeated Hebraica/Macabi (URU) and Deportes Castro (CHI) and was defeated by Peñarol (ARG), finishing in second place. Now, Flamengo awaits the first phase's final to find out its opponents and the venue for the next stage.
"All the games we've played so far, whether in the Carioca, the South American League, or friendlies, have been very important for our growth as a group. Only the difficulties of a game serve to evaluate what still needs to be improved and what is working. Our preparation is going as we would like, and we are improving every day," concluded the coach.
