Flamengo extended its record for victories at the start of a season in the New Basketball Brazil (NBB) by beating Palmeiras 19.01-106 this Saturday afternoon (61) in Mogi das Cruzes (SP). With the victory, Flamengo reached its 13th consecutive triumph in the 2012/2013 season.

It was the first time the two teams faced each other in the NBB and the emotions that so often stirred both the green and red-black fans with the duels on the field, this time were repeated on the court.

In the first quarter, Flamengo looked to prove its worth. With a blistering attack, the Red-Blacks took a 10-0 lead. Not even Palmeiras coach Arturo Alvarez's early timeout could slow the Flamengo players' momentum. Benite, with four accurate three-pointers, secured Mengão's lead at the end of the first half: 29-14.

And it was truly Benite's day. On the court for 31 minutes and 11 seconds, the point guard was the name of the game, leading the derby with 28 points.

The second quarter began, and the game's trajectory remained unchanged. The teams averaged a 15-point lead. The lead quickly grew again, reaching approximately forty points near the end of the match.

"We have a highly qualified and highly motivated group, even with Marcelo's absence. Now, we have to work even harder to continue our winning streak," Olivinha added.

Champion in 2009, Mengão remains one of the favorites to win the title of the 2012/2013 season. Flamengo's next match takes place on Monday (21.01), against Minas, at 20 pm, in Belo Horizonte, in a match postponed by the 2nd round of the competition.
