Flamengo missed its first chance to secure a spot in the NBB semifinals. After taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five quarterfinals, the team was defeated 77-60 this Friday (May 04.05) at the Tijuca Tennis Club gymnasium. Now, Flamengo will try to close out the series next Tuesday (May 08.05) in Uberlândia, at 20 p.m. If necessary, the fifth match will be played on May 11.05, again in Tijuca.
In the first game, Flamengo won 110-108 at their opponent's stadium after two overtime periods. In the second game, Flamengo won again, this time in Tijuca, 70-63.
This Friday (04.05), the game, once again, was very balanced. After winning the first quarter by 15 x 14, Flamengo came from behind in the following two sets: 29 x 30 and 47 x 51. In the last quarter, Rubro-negro had problems in the offensive sector and ended up losing by 77 x 60. Flamengo's highlight was Marcelinho, with 11 points. The top scorer was Robby Collum, from Uberlândia, with 25 points.
"The team wasn't having a good night. The defense worked well, but we were poor in attack, perhaps our lowest score so far. That's a lesson for the next game," said Marcelinho.
"We had a great opportunity to close out the series at home and we didn't manage it. We knew Uberlândia has a great team and anything can happen in the playoffs. Now we have to keep our heads on straight and go for the win in the next game," said coach Gonzalo Garcia.
Flamengo started with: Hélio (6), David Jackson (2), Marcelinho (11), Kammerichs (10) and Caio Torres (9). Entered: Fred (-), Teichmann (4), Duda (9), Heyes (7) and Wagner (2).
