After an epic victory in the first game, Flamengo was defeated by Brasília, 85-74, on Wednesday night (December 05.12th), in Corrientes (ARG), in the second round of the final quadrangular of the South American Basketball League. Despite the result, Flamengo still has a chance of winning the competition for the second time. The title will be decided in the last round, this Thursday (December 06.12th), when the Rio de Janeiro team faces Regatas Corrientes, at 23:10 pm (Brasília time). Before that, Brasília takes on Peñarol.
Flamengo started the match with a strong defense, opening up an 11-point lead (22-11) in the first quarter, which ended 22-16. In the second, the lead returned to 11 points after two consecutive three-pointers by Duda (36-25). Eventually, Brasília closed the gap, and Flamengo went into halftime leading 40-39. Brasília took the lead early in the third quarter, and the game remained evenly matched, with both teams alternating the lead. The red-and-black team overturned the set by falling behind to 56-62. In the final quarter, the Rio de Janeiro team took the lead (70-69), but made too many mistakes in the final minutes and let the victory slip away to 85-74.
The top scorers were Flamengo's Marquinhos and Brasília's Arthur, both with 18 points. Caio Torres had a double-double (14 points and 11 rebounds).
"We made a lot of mistakes, 20 in total, which prevented our victory. Brasília controlled the game, and that ended up being fatal for us. Now it's time to cool down and think about tomorrow's match. Nothing is decided yet, just as it wouldn't be if we had won. The title will be decided in tomorrow's round," said coach José Neto, who spoke about the next opponent. "It will be a very tough game, against a very well-organized team, who will be playing at home," he added.
