Flamengo was defeated by Franca, 91 x 80, at the Pedrocão gymnasium, in Franca, on Thursday night (15.03) and moved up to fourth place in the overall NBB standings. The team now has 17 wins in 23 matches and is behind leaders Pinheiros, who have two more games, and second-placed São José and third-placed Brasília, both with one more game.
The Rio team returns to the court this Saturday (17.03), against Uberlândia, at 21 pm, at the Sabiazinho gym, in Uberlândia (MG). Sportv will broadcast live.
Thursday's match marked the return of power forward/center Guilherme Teichmann to the court. Having recovered from surgery to remove a testicular tumor in December, he had been out of action for just over two months. Against Franca, Teichmann was on the bench. Flamengo's standouts were Duda and Chris Hayes, with 18 points each. Franca's Ivanovic was the top scorer with 24 points.
Flamengo was slow to get into the game. Committing counterattack errors and playing poorly on defense, the team scored just 10 points in the first quarter, compared to Franca's 27. Flamengo rallied in the second quarter with the introduction of Chris Hayes and Duda, who made three consecutive three-pointers. The team scored 29 points in the quarter, compared to the São Paulo team's 21. Still, they went into halftime trailing 39-48.
After the break, after getting closer to the score (50 x 58), Flamengo let Franca open up again and the São Paulo team closed the quarter at 72 x 57. In the last quarter, the game became tense, with many complaints and technical fouls for both teams, and the home team closed at 91 x 80.
"Playing in Franca is always nerve-wracking, it's always a tough game. Now it's time to lift our heads and think about the next opponent," said Duda.
Flamengo started with: Hélio (4), David Jackson (8), Marcelinho (11), Kammerichs (9) and Caio Torres (2). Entered: Fred (6), Duda (18), Chris Hayes (18) and Wagner (4).
