Flamengo ended 2011 as they wanted: with another victory and a lead in the NBB. On Saturday afternoon (17/12), the team defeated Vila Velha 103-41 at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium in Gávea. David Jackson led the way with 18 points. With this result, the red-and-black team has eight wins in nine games and is joint-top of the competition, alongside Pinheiros.
Now, the NBB will take a break for the holiday season. The team's next challenge will be on January 05.01th, against Franca, at 20:15 pm, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium.
In Saturday's game, Flamengo proved superior throughout. Caio Torres opened the scoring for the Gávea team, which crushed its opponent in the first quarter: 30-08. In the second quarter, the red-and-black team continued to show greater chemistry and took advantage to extend its lead even further: 60-13.
With beautiful plays that drove the large crowd wild, Flamengo continued to dominate the game in the third quarter. Caio Torres had a great performance, and Flamengo closed the quarter with an 80-24 lead. In the final half, Vila Velha tried to improve its position, but to no avail: the game ended, leading 103-41 to Flamengo.
