Flamengo ended the first round of the NBB4 with an 86-71 victory over Tijuca this Thursday (January 19.01) at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium in Gávea. With this result, Flamengo now has 12 wins in 14 games and awaits the match between Franca and Uberlândia, later this Thursday (January 19.01), to determine its position in the overall standings. If the São Paulo team wins, Flamengo takes sole leadership. If Uberlândia wins, the red-and-black team remains in the lead alongside the Minas Gerais team, but at a disadvantage in the head-to-head (first tiebreaker).
Marcelinho was the game's top scorer, with 29 points. Flamengo returns to the court next Thursday (26.01), against Paulistano, at the opponent's home, in the opening of the second round of the NBB.
Tijuca took the lead, opening 13 x 8, but a three-pointer from Marcelinho (the standout player in the first half, with 20 points) started the reaction of the Rubro-negro, who tied it in the next play and turned it around to 15 x 13. The set ended with another three-pointer from Marcelinho: 24 x 18. With a strong defense, Flamengo was devastating in the second quarter and only allowed the opponent to score eight points: 44 x 26.
During the game's halftime break, the young athletes selected in the II National Basketball Selection were presented to the fans.
In the second half, Flamengo, heavily defended, struggled to finish off its attacks. Even so, it closed the third quarter with a healthy 67-52 lead. In the final quarter, the red-and-black advantage remained at around ten points, eventually winning the game 86-71.
"It was another important victory at home. Tijuca signed two reinforcements and a new coach, and the team is very strong. We managed to open up a good lead in the first half, and although we didn't have a good second half, we achieved our objective and came away with the victory," said Marcelinho.
Flamengo started with: Hélio (-), David Jackson (19), Marcelinho (29), Kammerichs (13) and Caio Torres (11). Entered: Átila (3), Fred (-), Duda (5) and Wagner (6).
