With an eye on the NBB leaders, Flamengo returns to the court this Thursday (15.03) against Franca, at 20 pm, at Ginásio Pedrocão, in Franca (SP). The red-black team occupies third place in the overall standings, with 17 wins in 22 games (77,3% success rate), but with one game less than the first two placed, Pinheiros and São José, respectively, with 18 wins in 23 games each (78,3% success rate).
This Thursday's game will mark the return of power forward/center Guilherme Teichmann to the court. The player was out of action for just over two months after undergoing surgery to remove a testicular tumor in December. He returned to training with Flamengo on February 15th.
"After the shock of being diagnosed with this disease, the hardest part was being out of training and games, and not being able to continue my athletic routine. I was really looking forward to returning. I can't wait to get on the court and help Flamengo in the competition," said Teichmann.
Their next opponent, Franca, has 10 wins in 23 games (43,5%) and is in 10th place. In the first round, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Flamengo prevailed: 93 x 81. Coach Gonzalo Garcia, however, warns that the São Paulo team improved in 2012.
"Franca is a good team, with experienced players and good foreign players, and despite not having a good start to the championship, they grew a lot in 2012. We have to be careful with the opponent's offensive system, especially the fullbacks and the point guard, and try to prevent them from scoring too many points," explained Gonzalo.
