Fla faces Tijuca in the closing of the first round of the NBB
The red-and-black team could end the round as the sole leader of the competition.

Flamengo takes the court this Thursday (January 19.01) trying to finish the first round as the sole leader of the NBB4. To do so, the red-and-black team needs to beat Tijuca at 19 pm at the Hélio Maurício gymnasium in Gávea, and hope that Franca defeats Uberlândia at 21 pm in Franca. Entry to the game is free, but the club asks that fans contribute water and/or 1 kg of non-perishable food, which will be donated to victims of the rains in Além Paraíba.
With one round remaining in the first half of the season, Flamengo shares the lead with Uberlândia, with 11 wins in 13 matches (84,62% success rate). The Minas Gerais team, however, has the advantage in head-to-head record, the primary tiebreaker.
This Thursday's opponent, Tijuca, is in 12th place, with four wins in 13 games (30,77%). The last time the two teams faced each other was in last year's State Championship final, when the red-and-black team won 93-75 and became seven-time champions.
"Of course, it would be important to finish the first round as leader. But we'll go out on the court focused on doing our part and coming out with the win, without worrying about the other teams' results. If we take the lead, it will be a consequence," said coach Gonzalo Garcia.
Flamengo has the best offense in the competition, averaging 91,9 points per game. The team also leads the statistics in three-point shooting (45,6%). Hélio (70,3%) and David Jackson (61,8%) lead the way in this field.
"I've been putting a lot of emphasis on three-point shots. Flamengo has two scoring wings, Marcelinho and David Jackson, so that automatically increases the chances of shooting from distance and I have to be prepared," explained Hélio.
