In search of a place in the final, Flamengo debuts in the second phase of the South American League this Tuesday (27.11). The team faces Brasília, in the biggest classic of national basketball today, at 20 pm, at the Pinheiros gym, in São Paulo, for the first round of group F. Sportv announces the broadcast.
Pinheiros and Tiburones de Vargas (VEN) are also in the group. Flamengo faces the São Paulo team on Wednesday (November 28.11) at 10:22 pm, and concludes its participation against the Venezuelans on Thursday (November 29.11) at 20 pm. Two teams qualify for the final quadrangular, which will be played from December 4 to 6, at a location yet to be determined. Regatas Corrientes and Peñarol, both from Argentina, have already qualified.
Flamengo will be without captain Marcelinho, who sprained his right knee in Flamengo's opening match in the NBB, against Vila Velha, last Saturday (24.11), at the opponent's home, and did not travel with the group to São Paulo. He is in Rio de Janeiro, where he will undergo an MRI in the coming days.
"It will be a very difficult and important game for us. The championship is short and we need a win to get into a slightly more comfortable position," said forward/guard Vitor Benite, who spoke about Marcelinho's absence: "It's clear that Marcelinho is the type of player that any team misses. But we'll use what happened as a motivating factor for the team," he added.
Flamengo will have the return of pivot Shilton, recovered from a sprained thumb on his right hand.
"We know the first game doesn't decide anything, but a victory will be very important in our journey to the final. Brasília is a very strong team, and there's a strong rivalry between the two teams. But we're prepared. We won't have an easy game in the competition," said the center.
