In search of its seventh championship, Flamengo debuts in the State Basketball Championship against Iguaçu, this Saturday (17.09), at 17 pm, at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium, in Gávea.

Players Hélio, Fred, Guto, Teichmann, Átila dos Santos, Wagner, Alexandre, Rodrigo, Felipe, Ricardo Bampa, as well as the American David Jackson, are the players who will be available to play the first game of the State Championship.

American David Jackson can't wait to wear the mantle for the first time.

"I'm nervous, but excited. The best way to help the team is to give my best individually, and that's what I intend to do. I've already played against Flamengo once and saw the strength of the fans, and I hope I can count on them to support me this time," he said.

Flamengo will not have its full strength squad in this first match. Kammerichs, Caio Torres, and Marcelinho, who were competing in the Mar del Plata Pre-Olympic tournament—the former representing Argentina and the latter representing Brazil—are exempt from this match but should be present to support their teammates.

Star Leandrinho, Flamengo's latest signing, will not play in the first phase of the State Championship. The Toronto Raptors player, from the NBA, is still recovering from a right wrist injury, and the date of his debut has not yet been set. Coach Gonzalo Garcia, who was also in the Pre-Olympics with the Argentine national team, where he is an assistant coach to Julio Lamas, will also not be on the bench for the opening game. The team will be led by assistant coach João Batista.

"Expectations for the game are the best possible. I hope the team shows everything they've been working on these past few months, so we can come away with the victory. The State Championship will be excellent for getting the team in tune for the New Basketball Brazil (NBB)," he said confidently.

The teams that will compete in the 2011 State Basketball Championship are: Flamengo, Tijuca Tennis Club, Macaé and Iguaçu.

Flamengo's next games:
19/09 - Tijuca x Flamengo - 20pm - Tijuca Tennis Club
21/09 - Macaé x Flamengo - 19pm - Macaé
23/09 - Flamengo x Macaé - 19pm - Gávea
26/09 - Flamengo x Tijuca - 19pm - Gávea
