The fifth edition of the NBB (New Basketball Brazil) was officially launched on Friday afternoon (November 09.11th) at an event at the JK Memorial in Brasília. Players, coaches and directors of the participating teams were present at the ceremony, which also included directors of the National Basketball League. Flamengo was represented by captain and forward Marcelinho Machado, forward/point guard Vitor Benite, coach José Neto and basketball director Arnaldo Szpiro.
Flamengo's debut in the competition will be on November 24.11th, against Cetaf/Vila Velha, in Vila Velha. Flamengo was the tournament's first champion, in the 2008/2009 season. This year, the NBB will feature a record number of participating clubs: 18.
"I think we'll have one of the most balanced and evenly matched championships in recent memory. Several teams have made good investments, and in my opinion, we'll have at least six title contenders," said Flamengo coach José Neto. "Flamengo has assembled a strong team, aiming to compete for every title we win. We took the first step by winning the State Championship, and we'll continue working to keep improving," he added.
