Flamengo has three more games – all in Rio de Janeiro – to achieve its goal of finishing among the top four in the NBB qualifying phase and securing home court advantage in the best-of-five quarterfinal series. The first of these will be this Thursday (29.03), against Limeira, at 19 pm, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium.
Currently, Rubro-Negro is in fourth place, with 18 wins in 25 games (72% success rate). The leader is Pinheiros, with 20 wins in 25 matches (80%), followed by São José, with the same record but losing head-to-head. In third place is Brasília, with 19 wins in 25 games (75%).
This Thursday's opponent, Limeira, is in 10th place with 11 wins in 25 matches (44% success rate). In the first-round match, the Rio de Janeiro team prevailed 91-80 at their opponent's home ground. Now, Flamengo will be without captain Marcelinho. The player fractured the middle finger on his left hand late in the match against Uberlândia on March 17.03.
"There will be three games where we'll have to strive not only for victory, but also for perfection, to enter the playoffs in good shape," explained winger Duda, who replaced Marcelinho in the last round against Brasília. "Limeira is a very well-organized team, which has been achieving good results in recent years. But we have to go onto the court concerned about our team, because we can't afford any more mistakes," he concluded.
Shipowner Hélio agrees:
"We can't let them get away with the game. We have to go out on the court focused and try to impose our game from the start," he added. "It will be crucial that we do our part in these last three home games to guarantee a top-four finish."
After Limeira, Flamengo faces Araraquara, Saturday (31.03), at 19:15 pm, in Tijuca, and Tijuca, on 05.04, at 19 pm, in the same place.
