Despite a great performance by Teague, the team lost to Capitanes de Arecibo (PUR)

After reaching, for the first time in its history, the second phase of the League of the Americas, Flamengo said goodbye to the competition, on Saturday night (05.02), with a defeat to Capitanes de Arecibo (PUR), by 87 x 85. The red-black team left the tournament, played in Veracruz (MEX), with three defeats (the other two were to Halcones Rojos, from Mexico, and Peñarol, from Argentina).
Without Marcelinho, who suffered a stiff neck, Flamengo relied on a stellar performance from American David Teague, who finished as the game's top scorer with 30 points. Duda and Teichmann also shone, each with 16 points.
Flamengo dominated the match throughout all four quarters and never trailed. In the final seconds, Capitanes de Arecibo equalized and secured victory with the final ball, with the clock running out.
"Flamengo dominated the game for 39 minutes and 56 minutes, but a series of errors at the end made us pay dearly. The important thing is that we played much better than in the first two matches. We knew it would be difficult to qualify, but we still gave it our all," said coach Gonzalo Garcia. "We achieved the unprecedented feat of reaching the second round, and we will certainly improve every year," he concluded.
