Flamengo's runner-up finish in the South American Basketball League is a thing of the past. Less than a week after losing to Brasília in the final last Sunday at the HSBC Arena, the team returns to the court in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Undefeated in the competition, the Rubro-negro team faces Assis Basket (SP) this Friday (December 03.12rd) at 20 pm at the Jairo Ferreira dos Santos Gymnasium in Assis.
Flamengo will be without center Bábby for the match. The player sprained his right ankle in the first game of the League's final stage, on November 25.11, against Boca Juniors, and is in Rio de Janeiro undergoing treatment.
Flamengo leads the NBB with two wins (over Vila Velha and Vitória), matching the Franca team's record, but winning on average, the first tiebreaker (1,578 points to São Paulo's 1,021). Assis is 14th and second-to-last, with three losses in three matches. Even so, coach Paulo Chupeta is sounding a warning.
"Assis is a team that has been strengthening and whenever they play at home they become dangerous for any opponent," analyzed the coach, who was shared by point guard Duda.
"All the games in the interior of São Paulo are very difficult, because the fans show up in droves. Besides, there are no more stupid teams in the NBB," said Duda, assuring that the defeat to Brasília in the South American League final is in the past.
"It's hard to forget, but we have an experienced team and we know how to overcome situations like this. We've talked a lot about what happened, and it's through defeats that we grow. We can't get discouraged, but rather face it head on and think about the next goal, which is the NBB title," he concluded.
After Assis, Flamengo continues in São Paulo, where they face Bauru, on Sunday (05.12), at 11 am, in Bauru.
