Flamengo beat Iguaçu 120-14 this Tuesday (27.09) in the final round of the return leg of the State Basketball Championship and qualified for the finals of the competition in first place. While the decisive games are not yet available, the Rubro-negro will compete in the South American in October.
Flamengo demonstrated its dominance from the opening seconds of the match. In fact, Iguaçu's only respite came when they tied the game at 2-2 with their first basket. Anyone who thought Flamengo would take their foot off the gas was sorely mistaken.
At the end of the first quarter, the score was 31 points. By the end of the match, that advantage had tripled. Final score: 120 to 14. The good news was the top scorer. Alexandre scored 23 points and left delighted with the opportunity.
"This is the kind of opportunity we have to seize. Professor Gonzalo García is giving us these chances and I'm very happy to take advantage of them. I feel very good, I'm being treated well by everyone and I'm pleased to have managed to do well among so many great players," said Alexandre.
Less excited, but no less happy, coach Gonzalo highlighted that the regional competition served, and greatly, to start giving the team a face this season.
"All these State Championship games served to train the team. They helped to implement new systems and begin to show the team's value," concluded the red-and-black coach.
