Flamengo took the first step towards the NBB final. The team defeated São José 84-68 on Tuesday night (May 15th) at the Tijuca Tennis Club, taking a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series. The next game will be played on Friday (May 18th) at 15.05 pm in São José dos Campos. The third game will take place on Sunday (May 18.05th) at 19:20.05 pm, also at the opponent's home court. If necessary, the fourth game will be on May 21th at 25.05 pm in Rio, and the fifth on May 21th at 27.05 pm in São José dos Campos.

American David Jackson was the top scorer with 17 points, alongside Dedé from São José. Caio Torres and Marcelinho also stood out, with 14 points each.

"We played with a lot of intensity and that was key. But the series is long and we have to try to maintain the same attitude in every game," said David Jackson.

"We played with intensity for the entire 40 minutes and I was very happy with that. This home win in the first game was very important. We took an important step," reinforced coach Gonzalo Garcia.

Marcelinho praised Flamengo's defense.

"Today the defense worked very well and we limited São José's attack, which is one of the best in the competition. That was the most important thing in today's victory," said the captain.

With a strong defense and spurred on by the crowd, Flamengo opened up an 11-point lead in the first quarter (27-16), which ended 27-18 for the Rio de Janeiro team. In the second quarter, the Rubro-negro managed to maintain the pace and opened up a 14-point lead (36-22). With a three-pointer from Marcelinho, Flamengo went into halftime leading 41-33.

On the return leg, Flamengo managed to maintain a strong defense and didn't let São José play. Jefferson was fouled out, and Flamengo closed the quarter with a 67-51 lead. In the final quarter, they simply managed their advantage and finished with an 84-68 victory.
