Already assured of a top-four spot in the qualifying round, Flamengo took another important step toward improving its overall NBB standings. In the penultimate round of the second half of the season, the team defeated Araraquara 81-65 on Saturday night (March 31.03) at Tijuca Tênis Clube. Flamengo now has 20 wins in 27 games and remains in fourth place, behind Pinheiros, São José, and Brasília, respectively. David Jackson led all scorers with 36 points. Kammerichs grabbed 12 rebounds.
Flamengo ends its participation in the qualifying phase next Thursday (05.04), against Tijuca, at 19 pm, at the opponent's gym.
Still without Marcelinho, who is recovering from a fractured middle finger on his left hand, Flamengo dominated the entire first half. With a strong performance from David Jackson, who shot 100% from the field (he scored 21 points on 21 attempts), the red-and-black team closed the first quarter 23-11 and went into halftime leading 41-32.
In the third quarter, the red-black advantage increased to 13 points: 63 x 50. In the last part, Flamengo did not slow down and closed the game at 81 x 65.
"The most important thing was the home win; it was our obligation to win. But the aftertaste wasn't the best. We still have a lot to improve, especially defensively, for the playoffs. I think the team is performing at 50% of its potential. We'll keep working to improve that," said coach Gonzalo Garcia.
Flamengo started with: Fred (6), David Jackson (36), Duda (12), Kammerichs (4) and Caio Torres (9). Entered: Átila (2), Helio (1), Hayes (2) and Teichmann (9).
