Flamengo is very close to a spot in the second phase of the South American Basketball League. After beating Hebraica/Macabi (CHI) in its debut, the Rubro-negro defeated Deportes Castro (CHI) 101-72 on Wednesday night (October 24.10th) in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. The team will secure early qualification if Peñarol (ARG) wins over the Uruguayans later on Wednesday (the game is scheduled to start at 22:30 pm Brasília time).
This Thursday (25.10), Flamengo ends its participation in the first phase against the home team, at 22:30 (Brasília time). Sportv announces the broadcast.
"It was a good game. We started very focused, as Neto had asked, and I think I was having a good night. My teammates noticed and called me on a lot, and I was able to respond, helping the team come away with the victory," said Olivinha, the game's top scorer with 25 points.
After a tight first quarter, which ended 19-13 for the Rio de Janeiro club, Flamengo started the second quarter with a bang. They scored 14 straight points, opening up a 33-13 lead. With 18 points from Olivinha, the red-and-black team went into halftime leading 54-33. The lead reached 24 points in the third quarter (70-46), which ended 78-54. In the final quarter, Flamengo managed to maintain the strong pace and won 101-72.
"I think our collective play made the difference today. We were drawn in a strong group and we're fulfilling our role. For a team like ours in development, the league's results are positive," said Marcelinho. "Regardless of whether we've already qualified, we're going in to win," he added.
Olivinha agrees:
"The game against Peñarol is a Brazil vs. Argentina rivalry. They'll be playing at home, and coming away with a win would be great to continue our work," he said.
Flamengo started with: Benite (8), Marcelinho (8), Marquinhos (21), Olivinha (25) and Shilton (5). Entered: Caio Torres (7), Duda (12), Kojo (2), Feliz (3), Gegê (-), Diego (10) and Douglas (-).
