With a stellar performance from Marcelinho, who scored 40 points in the match, Flamengo reached its 15th victory in the NBB. On Thursday night (February 23.02), the team defeated Joinville, 97-83, at the Tijuca Tennis Club Gymnasium, and stayed close to leader Pinheiros, who also triumphed in the round. Flamengo is second, with a 78,94% success rate (15 wins in 19 games). The São Paulo team has an 80,95% success rate (17 wins in 21 matches). The next challenge will be against São José, this Saturday, at 19 pm, in Tijuca.
"It was a good game. Joinville started with a strong defense, so we struggled a bit early on. But then we managed to impose our rhythm and opened up a good lead. I'm happy to have been able to contribute with a high score. Today, the team understood I was having a good day and played to me, hence my strong performance," explained Marcelinho.
In addition to Marcelinho, Caio Torres and David Jackson also stood out, with 14 and 12 points respectively.
The game started evenly, with the first quarter ending 17-13 for Flamengo. Flamengo then adjusted its defense and opened up a 14-point lead (43-29), leading 47-35 at halftime.
The deficit reached 20 points in the third quarter, after a three-pointer from Duda (72-52), and the quarter ended 76-55 for Flamengo. In the final quarter, despite the usual relaxation, the Rubro-negro managed to stay ahead and close the game at 97-83.
"We never lost our cool, and that was crucial to our victory. We had a great third quarter, we relaxed a bit at the end, but the important thing is that we came out with the win," said coach Gonzalo Garcia.
