On Thursday night (28.11), Flamengo faced Liga Sorocabana, at the Hélio Maurício gymnasium, at the Gávea social headquarters, and won by a large margin: 95 to 72. The game was valid for the fifth round of the sixth edition of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Point guard Laprovittola was once again the red-black's top scorer, with 21 points; Olivinha also remained the top rebounder, with eight rebounds, and Gegê was once again the leader in assists, with 11.

José Neto's team entered with the quintet of Laprovittola, Gegê, Olivinha, Shilton, and Meyinsse. Both teams started with two natural pivots from the start of the game, demonstrating that the coaches would invest in plays from inside the paint.

In the first quarter, Gegê stood out with three assists, and Shilton had a 100% success rate on points attempted (7/7), including one three-pointer. Despite the absences, Flamengo played with organization, forcing the League to contain the Flamengo players' momentum with fouls. The quarter ended with almost double the Flamengo points, at 29-15.

In the second period, the Mais Querido continued to dictate the pace of the game, with Felício scoring a beautiful dunk. The team missed a few free throws but still maintained the lead. Shilton continued his strong performance, racking up 12 points by halftime, trailing only Argentina's Laprovittola with 14. Leo Medeiros, a youngster in the under-22 category, came on strong and scored his first professional points for the Manto Sagrado. The period closed at 25-23, and the team went into halftime leading 54-38.

In the third quarter, Flamengo took to the court with the starting five and extended their lead to 77-53. Gegê continued to stand out with 10 assists and 8 points. Olivinha scored 15 points, five from free throws, a skill he achieved 100% success rate.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Flamengo failed to maintain the same rhythm and scored less consistently. The period ended with Liga Sorocabana ahead, 18-19, but Flamengo won the match by a significant margin: 95-72. Leo Medeiros reached 10 points and Meyinsse 18, making him the team's second-highest scorer. Olivinha and Gegê came close to a double-double: the former was two rebounds away from the former and two points away from the latter.

"In a tough league like the NBB, home wins are incredibly important. Playing against a team like Sorocaba, coming off a very good match against Limeira, shows their power. They play very physical, which is something we're struggling with right now with our limited player rotation, but I think we overcame it well. We prepared well to face this kind of challenge, and we were able to execute. Much of it was down to our defense, too. We defended well, still a bit inconsistent, but that's normal at the start of the season. Now we'll try to reduce this instability and be more solid defensively, seeking more wins, especially at home," assessed coach José Neto.

With this result, Flamengo occupies second place in the table, with four wins in five games. The professional basketball team's next match will also be at the Gávea headquarters, next Saturday (30.11/18), at XNUMX pm, against Paulistano.
