2014 continues to be a great year for Flamengo basketball. Undefeated in January, Flamengo defeated Franca, 80-70, away at the Pedrocão Gymnasium, on Saturday night (January 18.01). The match was part of the 18th round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB) and featured three top scorers: Marcelinho and Laprovittola for Mais Querido, and Paulão Prestes for São Paulo; all with 23 points. With the victory, coach José Neto's squad remained at the top of the competition.
Olivinha, who had four points and four rebounds, praised the red-and-black team's performance. "It was a very tough game. Playing in Franca is like that: their fans show up and support us from start to finish. But our team played a great game and managed to limit their team to 70 points, which is below Franca's average. Our offense was strong, thanks to Laprovittola and Marcelinho, who were inspired and helped us a lot to come away with the victory," he said.
Five other players scored for Flamengo: Meyinsse (4 points), Felicio (7), Gegê (7), Shilton (6) and Washam (6). In addition to his 23 points, Laprovittola also stood out for his number of assists. He had six, making the Argentine the best player in the game in this regard.
In the next round, Flamengo will play its third consecutive away game. The opponent will be Goiânia, in a match to be held at Ginásio Rio Vermelho, at 20 pm next Thursday (23.01).
