Flamengo maintained its undisputed lead in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). The team defeated Assis 100-75 on Friday night (February 18) at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro in a second-round match. Flamengo, which reached its fourth consecutive victory, now has 13 wins in 17 games. This Sunday, at noon, Flamengo returns to the court against Bauru, also at the HSBC Arena, with coverage on SPORTV.
Led by Marcelinho, the game's top scorer with 25 points, Flamengo imposed its rhythm from the start. With a strong defense, the red-and-black team closed the first quarter 26-20. In the second quarter, the deficit increased, and the Rio de Janeiro team went into halftime leading by 22 points (50-28).
The red-black advantage remained at around 20 points again in the third quarter, which ended at 73 x 53. In the last part, Flamengo was not threatened and with a three-pointer from Duda in the last seconds, they reached 100 points: 100 x 75.
"The fans were asking for 100 points and thank God the ball came to my hand and I managed to convert the basket," celebrated Duda.
For top scorer Marcelinho, Flamengo did their "homework".
"We did our job. We knew we were favorites, and the team didn't let up because of that. I'm happy to be able to help," said the forward/point guard.
Flamengo has not yet been able to count on American David Teague, who continues to feel pain in his lower back. The winger fell and hit his back on the board in last Sunday's game (13.02), against Vitória, in Vitória, and has been out of action for Fla since then.
This Saturday (19.02), he will undergo an MRI. Power forward Jefferson, who is recovering from an adductor injury in his right thigh, also did not play and should only return to the court in the match against Brasília, on 23.02, in Brasília.
Flamengo started with: Marcelinho (25), Helio (8), Duda (21), Teichmann (10) and Bábby (4). Entered: Fred (10), Guto (9), Wagner (4), Átila (9) and Fred Duarte (-).
