Flamengo had no difficulty in beating São José 81 x 70, on Friday night (01.04), in São José dos Campos, in the penultimate round of the NBB (New Basketball Brazil) classification phase. On Sunday (03.04), the team returns to the court against Limeira, at 10 am, in Limeira-SP, with broadcast on SPORTV.
With this result, the team remains second in the competition, with 20 wins in 27 games. Flamengo has the same record as leader Pinheiros (who beat Araraquara), but loses the head-to-head record, the first tiebreaker. Flamengo can still finish the second half as the sole leader, but to do so, they need to beat Limeira and hope for a Pinheiros stumble against Franca (also on Sunday).
The top four teams in the qualifying round qualify for the NBB quarterfinals. The teams ranked fifth through 12th will compete in the round of 16, from which the remaining four teams will advance.
In Friday's game, Flamengo's power forward/center Jefferson was the top scorer with 18 points. Marcelinho and Hélio also stood out, with 14 points each.
Still without center Bábby, with a dislocated left shoulder, Flamengo had no trouble imposing its rhythm and closing the first quarter at 21 x 13. In the second, the red-black team opened 31 x 19, but São José outlined a comeback: 33 x 27. Flamengo again forced the defense and went to halftime winning 52 x 33. At the end of the third quarter, Fla opened 22 points: 69 x 47. In the last part, the red-black team reached 74 x 54, then it was just a matter of holding the advantage and closing the game at 81 x 70.
Flamengo started with: Hélio (14), Duda (12), Marcelinho (14), Teichmann (4) and Wagner (-). Entered: Jefferson (18), Fred (2), Átila (5) and Teague (12).
