Fla defeats Regatas in the last round of the South American League finals
One point difference was not enough for Rubro-negro to take the title

Flamengo defeated Regatas Corrientes 82-81 on Thursday night (December 07.12th) in the final round of the South American Basketball League in Corrientes, ARG. However, the result wasn't enough for Flamengo to secure the title. The Rio de Janeiro team entered the court needing to win by at least 13 points, after Brasília defeated Peñarol in the opening round.
The final four ended in a three-way tie between Flamengo, Corrientes, and Brasília, each with two wins. In the first tiebreaker, average, the Argentine team prevailed. Brasília came in second, followed by the Rio de Janeiro team. Throughout the competition, Flamengo recorded seven wins in nine matches.
"I'm leaving the competition pleased with the players' performance, especially in our two victories, against Peñarol and Regatas. The team showed its spirit and the drive to overcome challenges. I think these two performances will serve to strengthen us in the NBB and the Liga das Américas," analyzed coach José Neto.
Flamengo led for much of the first quarter, which ended 20-18 to the home team. In the second half, with a strong defense, the Red-Black team only allowed their opponent to score one point and scored eight in a row, opening up a 27-21 lead. In the end, Regatas closed the gap and went into halftime leading 37-35. The home team came back stronger in the second half and opened up a 10-point lead (49-39), but Flamengo tied the score at 56-56 and closed the third quarter ahead: 61-58. In the final quarter, Flamengo was superior and opened up an eight-point lead (66-58) and ended up winning 82-81.
Vitor Benite was Flamengo's top scorer with 21 points. Regatas' Quinteros led all scorers with 24. Olivinha, with a sprained left ankle, played through the wringer and scored 12 points.
"In a tournament like this, every game is decisive. We arrived at the final round with a chance of being champions, but our victory today wasn't enough," Neto added.
Now, Flamengo returns to the NBB competition. The next challenge will be on Monday (10.12), against Franca, at the opponent's home.
