In a thrilling and hard-fought match, Flamengo secured another important victory in NBB 4. The team defeated São José 101-98 in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, and remained in sole possession of the tournament lead with seven wins in eight games. American David Jackson, on an inspired day, scored 27 points and led the way in scoring. Marcelinho scored 23, and Kammerichs recorded a double-double (17 points and 14 rebounds).
Flamengo returns to action on the 17th against Vila Velha at 15 p.m. at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium in Gávea. After that, the championship will be suspended for the end-of-year festivities, returning on January 5th.
Flamengo started the game better, forcing the defense in the paint and forcing São José to commit attacking errors. This gave them a 22-14 lead. At the end of the quarter, São José closed in, but the red-and-black team won the set: 26-24. The game remained evenly matched in the second quarter, but with strong performances from Marcelinho and Kammerichs (who finished the first half with 13 and 12 points, respectively), Flamengo went into halftime ahead: 50-42.
At the beginning of the third quarter, São José scored 12 points in a row (54 x 53), but Flamengo managed to stay ahead, closing at 7 5 x 71. The last part was very balanced, but Flamengo's collective game prevailed, winning by 101 x 98.
"We knew it would be a tough game, with two strong teams, title contenders. The win was very important, especially since it was an away game and against a direct rival in the fight for the top spot (São José has a game in hand). I think our biggest merit was our collective play; we managed to distribute the plays well, without overworking a single player," said captain Marcelinho.
Flamengo started with: Hélio (10), David Jackson (27), Marcelinho (23), Kammerichs (17) and Caio Torres (17). Entered: Átila (2), Fred (2), Duda (3) and Wagner (-).
