Fla defeats Tijuca in the final of the second leg of the State Championship
After the triumph, the red-black team will travel, on Sunday, to the first phase of the South American League

Seeking its eighth championship, Flamengo finished the first phase of the State Basketball Championship with a 100% record. In the final match of the second half, the team defeated Tijuca 75-60 on Friday night (October 19.10) at Tijuca Tênis Clube. Flamengo has played six games and won six of the championship so far. The final, against Tijuca (second-best team), will be played in a best-of-three format, with no date yet set.
Flamengo's next challenge will be the South American League, one of the most important competitions of the season. The team travels to Mar del Plata on Sunday (October 21.10), where they will play in the first phase. Their debut will be against Hebraica (URU) on October 23.10. Flamengo then faces Deportes Castro (CHI) on October 24.10 and Peñarol (ARG) on October 25.10. The top two teams in the group advance to the second phase.
In Friday's game, the team's biggest surprise was the return of Caio Torres. The center, who tore ligaments in his left big toe, hadn't yet played this season. Caio started on the bench but came on in the first quarter and scored six points. Flamengo, on the other hand, was still without point guard Kojo, who is recovering from an abdominal strain.
Flamengo led the scoreboard throughout the match. The quarter-final scores were: 16-7; 36-23; 57-41; and 75-60. Marcelinho led all scorers with 17 points. Shilton scored 16.
"We achieved our goal, which was to get the team back into playing form for the South American League. We had good matches in the State Championship and three strong friendlies in Buenos Aires, as well as the friendly against Brasília here in Rio. I think we're well prepared to seek a spot in the competition. We'll face strong teams, but I think we have a good chance of qualifying," commented Marcelinho.
