The 2018-2019 Rubro-Negro basketball team was officially unveiled. At an event held at the official store at Gávea headquarters, the players and coaching staff met with fans and the press, marking their first official meeting of the season. The team has already been training and is ready for its State Championship debut next Saturday against Botafogo at General Severiano.

After finally and officially presenting the squad, the team's coach, Gustavo De Conti, spoke about the behavior he expects from his team this season. He himself has made some changes to his approach and believes that with the team he has, he can continue his quest for a title and do so as the fans desire: with determination and fighting until the end.
"It will be an extremely competitive team, fighting at the top for the best positions and titles. We're not promising the title, as it seems disrespectful to the others, but without a doubt the team is among the favorites and will go for all the titles," commented the coach..

Last season, Anderson Varejão arrived midway through his job and had to adapt to the team and its style of play, which was very different from the NBA. Now, the star has been with the team since the beginning and knows the difference it will make over the course of the year. The number 14 jersey was very excited about the job.
"We'll be well prepared and we'll go after everyone. That's the message. I'm very happy with the team's performance. The committee is new, but they're already showing what they want us to do. We know our potential."
The team has undergone many changes since last season. For center João Vitor, the mix of ages and experiences sets the team apart from its rivals.
"The difference between our team and the others is that we have experience, quality, and youth, all united. Gustavo did a good job putting together the team, which is well on its way to having a great season," concluded João.
