Flabasquete presents the World Cup team in new clothes
The 2014/2015 season team meets with directors in Gávea for a press conference; the team will play with the new adidas uniform.

The team that will compete in the unprecedented World Cup for Flamengo against Maccabi Tel Aviv presented itself at the Gávea headquarters on the morning of this Thursday (19.09). The athletes, state, national and Americas champions, spoke to the press, dressed in the new adidas uniform for the 2014/2015 season. The president of the Club, Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, the Vice-President of Olympic Sports, Alexandre Póvoa, the coach José Neto and the Director of the department, Marcelo Vido opened the presentation, which marked the beginning of the final stretch of preparation for the World Cup.

"This is the most important year in Flamengo's history. This group here is spectacular, and we want to maintain this level of Flamengo basketball. I'm very proud of these athletes, who are more than just players; they are men and honor the jersey. Flamengo's biggest goal this season, beyond competing in major matches, is to continue being the Pride of the Nation. Greater than any title is being the pride of a nation of 40 million fans," praised Alexandre Póvoa.
Director Marcelo Vido was moved when discussing the red-and-black team's achievements and highlighted the magnitude of the intercontinental competition. "It's great to be here today. We won major titles after fantastic campaigns. The NBA preseason games are recognition of our work. Right now, I feel a mix of my former athlete and managerial side. In 1979, I was a Club World Champion with Sírio, and we've been talking about this title for 35 years. It's a milestone in history. Now, as a manager, I have the chance to win again. In 1980, with Franca, in another World Cup as a player, with a team with a long tradition, we were runners-up, losing precisely to Maccabi. So, personally, facing this team again is very special, but it's even more so for the athletes. It's not easy to get here," he said.
Flamengo coach José Neto also expressed pride in the journey to the most special season in Flamengo basketball history. "More than just athletes and coaching staff, we have a group of men who know how to honor this jersey. When we have this mindset and work hard, we know we can do it. We're going to compete in the World Cup against a Euroleague champion, whose one-month investment is comparable to our annual investment. The impossible only serves to make us realize we can do more. I'm very pleased to be part of this group," he stated.
Flamengo's unprecedented undefeated victory in the Liga das Américas in March of this year earned them a spot in the World Cup. The title will be contested over two matches (September 26 and 28.09) against Maccabi Tel Aviv, the current European champion, at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. If each team wins, the team that wins by the greater points difference will claim the trophy.
Season 2014 / 2015
The next season of the Pride of the Nation promises to be exciting. After the Club World Cup matches, Flamengo will be the first Latin American team to play friendly matches in the NBA preseason, invited by the American League. The team also has to defend its state, national, and continental titles in the Campeonato Carioca, Novo Basquete Brasil, and Liga das Américas.
