FlaBasquete builds advantage in the final stretch and beats Caxias do Sul away from home

In another challenge in the qualifying round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB), Flamengo defeated Caxias do Sul 82-71 at their opponent's home ground. After three intense and hard-fought quarters, the team built an 11-point lead in the final moments of the match, securing their 21st win in 23 games in this season's championship and remaining in second place in the standings.

The game

The first half of the match saw both teams play strong defenses, but Flamengo's shooting performance was poor. Deodato, with a stunning triple basket, and Jaú, with a stunning dribble, were the stars of Flamengo's most eye-catching plays of the period, but Caxias do Sul ultimately took the lead, closing at 14-13. The same pattern from the first quarter was repeated in the second, and Flamengo went into halftime trailing 34-32 in a tight game.

The third quarter continued at the same intense and evenly matched pace, but that was when Flamengo regained the lead. The standout performers were Ricardo Fischer, who scored eight points in the quarter, and Hettsheimeir, who had five points and four rebounds. Gustavo De Conti's men went into the final ten minutes of the match leading 53-52.

The game's approaching clock-out heated up the heat, and the Red-Blacks knew how to assert themselves to secure the victory. With two minutes remaining, Hettsheimeir hit a shot from the perimeter, giving the Mais Querido a seven-point lead. Earlier, Gabriel Jaú had already scored ten points in the final quarter alone, establishing himself as the leading scorer. The final score showed a comfortable victory, secured in the final stretch: 82-71.
