This Sunday afternoon (8) was a victory for the Pride of the Nation at Tijuca Tennis Club! In a gym packed with fans, the team led by Gustavo De Conti beat Pato Basquete, 89 to 75, in the 13th round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). With the result, Rubro-Negro remains in second place in the standings.

The game

Rafael Mineiro opened the scoring with a layup. Flamengo opened a small lead with shots from Aguirre, Olivinha, and Cuello, but their opponents came back and took the lead (12-13). Failing to convert from the perimeter, a hallmark of Gustavinho's team, and with below-average efficiency, Flamengo ended up losing the first period (14-17).

The Pride of the Nation started the second quarter better. Hettsheimeir opened the scoring with a layup; then, a beautiful counterattack led by Gui Deodato ended in a drive and (another) basket by Hett. It was a shot from the perimeter by the number 1 that gave the Rubro-Negro the lead back, but the game was back and forth again. A beautiful three-pointer by Hett, with a perfect assist from Jaú, made it 35-32 and lifted the Nation in the stands. Luke Martinez then extended the lead with another from the perimeter (38-34), but Pato responded in kind on the very next play (38-37). The teams went into halftime with Mengão leading 41-37, after another three-pointer by Martinez.

In the third quarter, two consecutive three-pointers from Gui Deodato gave Flamengo a nine-point lead, but their lead grew to 16 (60-44). At the start of the final quarter, the score was 65-55 in favor of Flamengo. Flamengo fought back and pulled within 67-63 with eight minutes remaining, but the team from Gávea remained calm enough to secure the victory.

FlaBasquete returns to Tijuca Tênis Clube this Tuesday (10), for another NBB game. The ball will go up at 20 pm for the duel against Pinheiros, which will be broadcast live on FlaTV. Then, on Friday (13), the team turns its attention to another phase of the Champions League Americas, in the clash with Peñarol, once again at the Tijuca gym.
