FlaBasquete lands in Egypt for the Intercontinental Cup
Mais Querido debuts on Friday (11), against Lakeland Magic, in search of the world title
By Helena Petry - inFlaBasquete has arrived in Egypt! In the early hours of Wednesday (09), Tuesday night in Brazil, the Pride of the Nation landed in Cairo to compete in the Intercontinental Cup. The debut in the competition takes place on Friday (11), at 17 pm, local time, noon in Brasília. Champion in 2014, the Most Beloved begins the search for the second title against Lakeland Magic, winner of the G-League and franchise of the Orlando Magic.
Between flights, the red-and-black coaching staff continued their work. Coach Gustavo De Conti and assistant coach Fernando Pereira continued their study of their first opponent, focusing entirely on the North American team.
"I usually watch two games of the opponent we're going to play. In this case, since I don't know much about them and Lakeland is a team that changes players a lot from match to match, I was already watching their fifth game," said Gustavinho, also discussing the team's preparations during the week of the competition. "Now, we have to take it step by step. The Intercontinental has always been our main focus, so even though we were playing NBB, Carioca, Super 8, BCLA... we were always thinking a little about preparing for the World Cup, especially physical conditioning," he added.
With a stopover in Paris, Rubro-Negro left Rio de Janeiro last Monday (07). On Wednesday morning, Mengão athletes performed mobility exercises to, in the afternoon, do the first training session at Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall, home of the hosts Zamalek SC and stage of the competition.
The match between Flamengo and Lakeland Magic is for a spot in the final, and ESPN will broadcast the match live in Brazil. In the other semifinal, the Egyptian team faces the reigning world champion, the Spanish team San Pablo Burgos. The match takes place at 20 pm (15 pm Brasília time).
